Joshua Steck is a multi-instrumentalist and composer of original works for media, installations, and live ensemble performances. An ardent admirer of early musical synthesis, Josh draws equal inspiration from 20th-century choral works, musique concrète, art rock/pop, chiptune, and a dash of American Primitive Guitar.
A burgeoning interest in aural futurism has led him to envision potential commercial and industrial applications of experiential audio design and emerging music creation processes. He received a B.A. in Music and Jazz Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied composition, improvisation, and musicianship under Anne LeBaron, Nathan Davis, and John Goldsmith, respectively. From 2014-2016, he served as 2nd Vice-President and board member of the Village Voices Chorale, a performing group providing over $160,000 in grants and scholarships supporting music arts and education. He is currently music director on several annual community productions and Yamaha/Line 6 technical consultant for performing artists and recording studios worldwide. |
